Changes from state I, in drypoint: hatching added between double contours. Irises filled in.
Background:
On October 5th, 1999, the artist was visited by the David Rockefeller, Jr. and Richard Lanier. They visited to discuss the Praemium Imperiale Award from the Japan Art Association. Since 1989, the 5 prizes per year have been awarded in the categories of painting, sculpture, architecture, music, and film/theater. Bourgeois was the recipient in the sculpture category in 1999.
Curatorial Remarks:
The chine collé consists of 2 pieces of tissue paper, sewn together in the center. It appears that the chine collé was shifted clockwise after printing.
