Biographical Note

Jane Sabersky was born in Munich, Germany on May 26, 1911. She emigrated to the United States in 1939 and served for four years as assistant to the influential art dealer Curt Valentin. In 1945 she joined the Department of Ciculating Exhibitions at MoMA where she worked for ten years, first as Supervisor and later as Assistant Director. She later worked for Knoedler & Co. Inc., The Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the Vassar College Art Gallery. Jane Sabersky died on January 23, 1983.


Scope and Content Note

The Papers (One 5" document box) include material relating to unrealized exhibitions (photographs, correspondence, proposals,) collecting and dealing in art (typescripts of speeches, notes), and general correspondence. The majority of the Papers date from 1950-1970.

Provenance

The Papers were given to the Museum Library in June, 1983 by the Estate of Jane Sabersky through the offices of John Torson. They were transferred to the Museum Archives during the summer of 1997.
