From the moment The Museum of Modern Art notified me that I was accepted to the In the Making printmaking summer class, I felt very lucky to be able to spend a portion of my summer taking a free art class. However, this class proved even better and more worthwhile then I had expected. When in addition to receiving the materials and means to create art, we were traveling all over New York City to meet and learn from artists and people affiliated with the art industry. These excursions exposed my class and me to what it really means to persue art avidly, as a life and in a career. After speaking to curators, printmakers, and living, working artists, I grasped a better understanding of what art means to others; and consequently, how the art I will continue to make after this class is over will affect people inside and outside of museums. |
