HOW CULTURE IN THE SUBWAYS MAY LOOK

By Susan Heller ANDERSON

The Louvre station in the Paris Metro, with its glistening vitrines displaying reproductions from the museum's collections, is a constant source of delight to subway passengers. Clearly, it is a far cry from the dingy, monotony of the stations of the New York City subway. The Louvre stop has served as the inspiration for redesigning four subway stations serving New York's major cultural institutions. New Yorkers will be able to get a glimpse of what these culture station are going to look like when the designs are unveiled at the Urban Center, 457 Madison Avenue, at 50th Street, on Wednesday.
