New York Times Review of the exhibition

PUBLISHED

18 October 1959

The Case Against the Tailfin Age; The more we 'progress,' argues a noted architect, the more we retrogress in terms of the beauty of our surroundings, which are 'a part of our national heritage.'

By Edward Durell STONE

RECENTLY, in speaking to a group in New York, I admonished my listeners to beware of progress, for progress, I said, usually means giving up something worth while for something less attractive. I cited a simple example: twenty years ago a living room was a space 20 by 30 feet, but today the only way a living room can be distinguished from a closet is by the absence of clothes hooks on the walls.
