New York Times Review of the exhibition

PUBLISHED

3 January 1943

From Boldini to Picasso; In the current exhibition of twentieth-century portraits at the Museum of Modern Art are seen basic elements of change in the art of our time.

By Monroe Wheeler Director

A CHAPTER of art history told in the images of people -- that is the current exhibition of twentieth-century portraits at the Museum of Modern Art. Out of that exhibition the six portraits shown on these pages were chosen to illustrate the changing trend of modern art, from the academicism of Boldini to the cubism of Picasso.
