Against the stark background of the Gobi Desert, a Yumen oil rigger cleans out his drill. Yumen is a combine of the petroleum industries that are supposed to produce 1 million tons of crude oil annually by the end of 1958, 2 million in 1959. It serves as a center for production experiments and, as a training ground for the technicians and engineers, trained seven thousand technicians between 1953 and 1957.
