Georg Scholz. Family.
1920. Lithograph.
The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
Gift of Mrs. Bertha M. Slattery

Like George Grosz, Georg Scholz had a gift for sinister personification. His rendition of simple German people in Family, a 1920 lithograph, is a cartoon grenade tossed in the laps of artists who celebrated the racial superiority of the Volk in kitschy genre pictures made for Nazi patrons.
