The people you meet when you immerse yourself in design for kids—the practitioners who dedicate themselves to this uniquely challenging and generally unglamorous area—tend to be experts. Exuberant, experimental, extraordinary. Two of them are also Exleys.

As the Emily Fisher Landau Education Fellow, I work cross-departmentally to evaluate MoMA’s interpretive resources (labels, audio guides, etc.), exhibitions, programs, and new initiatives by interviewing, observing, and using other methods to help MoMA offer the best visitor experiences possible.

For seven sessions last spring, the Cross-Museum Collective teens worked alongside artist Rashaad Newsome to create a work of collaborative art.

After weekend six, we can confirm that Warm Up will not cool down.  Energy was up among the crowd and the artists were on fire. 

Now that Photoshop has enabled complicated image manipulation with the click of a mouse, few of us still resort to using scissors, glue, and a stack of magazines to meet our collaging needs. Throughout the 20th century, however, the technique of collage was an essential strategy for successive generations of artists, from practitioners of Cubism and Dada to Pop art and beyond.

In 1972, while platform shoes, waistlines, and the first recorded Pong scores were high, a young boy in Norway was feeling, literally, pretty low.

This past January computer programmer, web designer, and sculptor Cory Arcangel participated in the exhibition “Thing/Thought: Fluxus Editions, 1962–78,” by creating his own arrangement of a Fluxkit, the signature compilation of objects created by many Fluxus artists held in a black suitcase.
