It caught my eye when I read last week that Jasper Johns has created a print on translucent paper for the May issue of Art in America magazine. Apparently, the print will feature several of Johns’s “signature motifs,” but the translucent paper might be considered somewhat of a signature motif in its own way.

Each year, the American Law Institute hosts approximately 250 legal scholars and practitioners from around the country for a continuing education conference called Legal Issues in Museum Administration (LIMA). Attendees are in-house counsel, registrars, private practitioners, museum directors, and students.

Luis Buñuel (1900–1983) led one of the most interesting lives of any director and, consequently, the flow of his career often changed channels. Thematically, however, his films seem to adhere to an idiosyncratic personal (and highly unusual) reality.

Digging deep into art historical legacies is a prevailing theme in this week’s roundup of events at the Museum, and there’s truly someone for everyone. Whether you’re able to visit the galleries or joining us remotely, dropping in for a 60-minute tour or committing to a weekend course, it’s a great time to engage with our collection in a way you might not have considered before. Best of all, many programs are free with Museum admission.

Five for Friday, written by a variety of MoMA staff members, is our attempt to spotlight some of the compelling, charming, and downright curious works in the Museum’s rich collection.

With Easter just days away and spring in the air (finally), bunnies—whether as anthropomorphized egg-and-candy-delivery agents or symbols of both metaphorical and literal fecundity—are everywhere.

Right now the U.S. military is preparing to allow women to serve in combat roles for the first time, and pressure is growing from international precedent for the U.K. to follow suit. Yet there are still many who feel that the frontline is just not a place fit for a woman. Such a prospect was certainly out of the question a century ago during World War I.

One of the most extraordinary works in the current exhibition Gauguin: Metamorphoses is Tahitian Woman with Evil Spirit (c. 1900), which was acquired for MoMA’s collection just weeks before the exhibition opened. Among the many exceptionally innovative works on paper that are the focus of the exhibition, this exciting new acquisition stands out for its monumental scale and magisterial presence.

John Boorman remains active at age 81, enjoying a directorial career of over half a century. He began with several documentaries, followed by Having a Wild Weekend (Catch Us If You Can), which attempted to do for the Dave Clark Five what Richard Lester had done for the Beatles with A Hard Day’s Night.

Just in time to lighten up your wardrobe—now that the temperature is finally above 50 degrees—MoMA is pleased to announce a new collaboration with UNIQLO, offering a range of wearable designs, including tees and totes, featuring artwork by Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, and Keith Haring, among others.
