A poet, filmmaker, painter, and printmaker, Fahlström drew on a diverse range of sources, from Surrealism to magazine photographs and comic books. This work is one of the artist's variable collages, in which components could be rearranged by the viewer to create different compositions and suggest different narratives. Fahlström was deeply engaged with the politics and issues of his day, and the work contains references to contemporary figures from Mao Tse-tung to singer Sylvie Vartan and her brother, Eddie, a composer and band leader.
