Tschichold said he experienced a "strong feeling for typography" during his visits to Czechoslovakia between 1931 and 1933. Among the designers there with whom he maintained contact was Sutnar, a teacher at the Státní Grafické Skoly (State school of graphic arts). In 1929 Sutnar became artistic director of the state-run publishing house Drustevní Práce and its associated industrial-design firm specializing in modern household wares). The "dp" monogram was a trademark reproduced in all of the company's publications and related enterprises.
