Louise Bourgeois. Thompson Street. c. 1946

Louise Bourgeois Thompson Street c. 1946

  • Not on view

Here Bourgeois employed the soft ground etching technique, which was encouraged at the Atelier 17 print workshop where she made this print. In state III she incorporated fabric to etch a patterned effect onto the surface of her printing plate. Bourgeois said the imagery of this print recalled a prostitute she saw in a doorway on Thompson Street in New York.
