Nuna, an Iñupiaq girl, sets out with her arctic fox on a quest to save her village from a ravaging blizzard. To restore balance to the environment, she must solve a series of challenges by gathering and using knowledge about the traditions of her people. This unique combination of puzzle adventure game and cultural exploration was created in collaboration with the Indigenous Iñupiaq community of Southcentral Alaska. The insight Nuna receives from her elders reinforces the importance of passing wisdom between generations, making Never Alone a powerful document of the heritage and language of a living people.
This installation is dedicated in memory of Amy Fredeen, who played a fundamental role at the very heart of Never Alone. We celebrate her vision and remarkable legacy.
