Ibrahim El-Salahi Untitled from Prison Notebook 1976

Affliction

By distress, grief, and petulance,

By coercion, hardship, and want

Are all tests of one’s rigor and faith,

And belief in the sacrosanct promise

With hardship comes ease,

With hardship comes ease.

Ibrahim El-Salahi: This has to do with difficult days. No matter how long they are, a time will come when things will be different. The Qur’an says, “With hardship comes ease.”
