Guillermo González Ruiz, Roland Shakespear Nuevos Diseños Knoll (New Designs from Knoll) c.1970

  • MoMA, Floor 3, 3 North The Philip Johnson Galleries

The abstract image at the center of this poster depicts lounge furniture designed by Chilean artist Roberto Matta for Knoll. In the 1960s and ’70s, Knoll was at the forefront of an innovative movement of international furnishing companies introducing radical new pieces to a burgeoning Latin American market. This poster’s Pop-art-inflected, graphic style would have echoed the appearance of the furniture itself, which consisted of interlocking polyurethane foam shapes covered in brightly colored synthetic fabrics.
