This composition demonstrates ways in which printmaking facilitated Bourgeois's practice of continually revisiting her imagery. Both works were created by placing the same tall vertical printing plates side by side, but in different orientations. She went still further by printing each singly and adding hand coloring and fabric elements. Bourgeois also combined the printing of a single plate with text for a grand-scaled illustrated book.
