Always revisiting her past, Bourgeois made notes in her diaries about rivers she had lived near, including the Creuse and the Bièvre from her childhood and youth, the Seine in Paris, and the Hudson, close to her home on 20th Street in New York. Here she pays homage to the Bièvre, which was important for her family's tapestry restoration workshop since it was rich in tannin, an ingredient that enhances the dyeing of fabric.
