Participant has produced some of the most admired documentary and narrative films of our era. Founded by Jeff Skoll in 2005 to create meaningful social change through storytelling, and focusing on the work of innovative cinematic artists, Participant has proven both urgently relevant and highly influential in the changing world of cinema. That many of their projects are also audience favorites speaks to the hunger for stories that engage with the critical issues of our time.
In partnership with Participant, MoMA presents a 15-film series celebrating these efforts to use the language of cinema to inspire social progress—a dynamic union of art and activism. Selections include An Inconvenient Truth (2006), Contagion (2011), Middle of Nowhere (2012), Citizenfour (2014), The Look of Silence (2015), Spotlight (2015), A Fantastic Woman (2018), Roma (2018), American Factory (2019), Collective (2020), and Flee (2021).
