  • MoMA, Floor T2/T1, Film Center The Debra and Leon Black Family Film Center

This special reopening series features a choice selection of rarely—if ever—screened works from MoMA's film collection, buried treasures and curator favorites that have remained obscure due to their unusual character, commercial unavailability, or restoration status. Several of these films have recently been preserved, and many screenings will feature guest presenters and commentators.

Hidden History Wednesdays kicks off in October with Morris Engel’s only 35mm color feature, I Need a Ride to California. Engel’s film, which was never released in theaters, uses a naïve and lonely young woman’s voyage through Greenwich Village’s tempestuous counterculture scene to explore the unsettled social and political landscape of American in the late 1960s.

Organized by Ron Magliozzi, Curator, Department of Film.

Support for the exhibition is provided by the Annual Film Fund. Leadership support for the Annual Film Fund is provided by Steven Tisch, with major contributions from Jo Carole and Ronald S. Lauder, Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP), The Brown Foundation, Inc., of Houston, Marlene Hess and James D. Zirin, Karen and Gary Winnick, and The Junior Associates of The Museum of Modern Art.
