P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center presents B Hotel, an exhibition of single-channel video works by twenty-three emerging artists, selected from an open call by a committee of curators and artist-advisors. B Hotel is located in the "Hive," a honeycomb structure for humans, originally designed for P.S.1's summer exhibition Buzz Club: News From Japan.
Selected artists include: Chris Bors, Peter Coffin, Stuart Croft, Lea Donnan, Gabriel Fowler, Matthias Geiger, Timothy Hutchings, Manabu Inada, Lucretia Knapp, Doug Lussenhop, Eline McGeorge, Patrick Meagher, Jeanine Oleson, Stephan Pascher, The Yee Haw Brothers: Tom Patterson & Akshay Desai, Barbara Pollack, Linda Post, Matt Saunders, Jessie Shefrin, Virginia Valdes, Sarah Vogwill, Virgil Widrich, and Carlo Zanni.
Announced earlier this fall, the open call for B Hotel drew over 500 submissions, from both well-known and emerging artists from more than 15 countries. Their works are screened on 4" x 6" LCD mini-monitors installed at the back of individual cells in the Hive. The Hive offers a pure viewing environment to visitors, who must climb and enter the cells to experience the works in private.
All submissions to B Hotel have been placed in the gallery alongside the work featured in the Hive. As part of its long-standing commitment to showcase emerging art, P.S.1's open call is an attempt to acknowledge and engage the extraordinary community of artists to which P.S.1 has historically been connected. This open call provides a glimpse into an enormous pool of energy and talent whose breadth we are not able to show here, but which we would like to admiringly acknowledge.
