Céline Sciamma’s (Tomboy, Girlhood) masterful fourth feature is a painterly tale of almost unspeakable yearning and passion. In 18th-century France, Marianne (Noémie Merlant) arrives at a remote cliffside home to paint a portrait of private, withdrawn bride-to-be Héloïse (Adèle Haenel). Though their time together is fleeting—only a few weeks—the women forge a romance that will set their hearts ablaze for a lifetime. Winner of the Queer Palm.
