In late March of 2019 a diminutive giant left us. Agnès Varda profoundly influenced and nurtured the development of cinema, beginning in 1955 with La Pointe Courte. In the decades that followed, and with revelatory work in photography, video, and sculpture, she never grew complacent. She also did not leave us alone with our memories of her work; Varda by Agnès is her parting kiss. Filled with the winks and wisdom, sweetness and brilliance that defined her professional life, her final film is part master-class, part poem, all Agnès.
