Murder on the Orient Express. 1974. United Kingdom. Directed by Sidney Lumet. Screenplay by Paul Dehn, based on the novel by Agatha Christie. With Lauren Bacall, Albert Finney, Ingrid Bergman. 35mm print. 128 min.

As the famed and opulent Orient Express travels from Istanbul to Calais, an American industrialist is murdered on the train. With world-renowned detective Hercule Poirot aboard to sift through the many suspects, the mystery unfolds in classic who-dunnit style. It's fun to watch Poirot, with his idiosyncratic hair and mustache, interact with the other passengers in the claustrophobic confines of the train. Ingrid Bergman won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

This film accompanies Modern Matinees: B Is for Bacall.
