Sinbad the Sailor. 1947. USA. Directed by Richard Wallace. Screenplay by John Twist. With Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Maureen O’Hara, Walter Slezak. 35mm. 116 min.

Fairbanks, newly returned from duty in the US Navy, takes on the role of Sinbad/Prince Ahmed. Sinbad is known to weave fantastic tales about his adventures, and his comrades don’t buy his tall tales. But Sinbad isn’t just boastful—he’s incredibly lucky. Near the port of Basra, Sinbad and his buddy Abbu come across a ghost ship, with everyone aboard dead from poisoning. When Sinbad boards the ship, he finds a map that resembles the design on an amulet he has worn since childhood. Will this discovery be the key to his parents’ true identity?
