With Margaret Mann, James Hall, Charles Morton, George Meeker, Francis X. Bushman, Jr. Ford’s film centers on a German mother whose sons fight and die on both sides of the war, again expressing the theme of a common humanity. The film is heavily influenced by F. W. Murnau’s Sunrise, shot on some of the same sets the preceding year at Fox.
