Now in its 21st season, Warm Up is one of the longest running music programs housed within a museum. As an integral part of MoMA PS1’s curatorial program, Warm Up seeks to elevate innovative and underrepresented voices and connect fans with music’s most important artists. The program’s alumni include contemporary creators Solange, Cardi B, Black Dice, Jamie XX, and Arca, as well as legendary DJs including Ritchie Hawtin, DJ Premier, and Derrick May. Each year, Warm Up takes place within a site-specific installation by the winners of the annual Young Architects Program. For summer 2018, MoMA PS1’s courtyard will be transformed by Dream The Combine, a Minneapolis-based team whose design features large-scale mirrors that create unexpected visual connections. Warm Up attendees are encouraged to visit the museum galleries and experience MoMA PS1’s acclaimed exhibitions of emerging artists, new genres, and adventurous work by recognized artists.
Warm Up 2014 is programmed by a curatorial committee selected by the museum to represent a wide spectrum of expertise and experience in music, sound, and the performing arts, resulting in a unique lineup of artists that explore, interpret, and combine genres. Selected by Klaus Biesenbach, Director, MoMA PS1, and Chief Curator at Large, The Museum of Modern Art; and organized by Margaret Knowles, Curatorial Assistant and Warm Up Producer, MoMA PS1 and Eleanor McKinney, Director of Visitor Services, MoMA PS1, the Warm Up 2014 curatorial committee includes Dean Bein, Head of True Panther Sounds; Jonathan Galkin, Co-Founder of DFA Records; Eliza Ryan; Brandon Stosuy, Senior Editor for Pitchfork; Imogene Strauss, of Cool Managers; Matt Werth, Label Head of RVNG Intl.
Warm Up 2014 will feature rotating stage installations by local New York design talent—including CONFETTISYSTEM, Chen Chen and Kai Williams, Fort Makers, Fort Standard, Nightwood, and The Principals—organized by Jocelyn Miller, Curatorial Assistant, MoMA PS1.
In addition, Warm Up 2014 is partnering with ARTBOOK @ MoMA PS1 to host a Weekend Shop in the MoMA PS1 Print Shop storefront at 22-01 Jackson Avenue, just around the corner from the museum entrance. The shop will feature design objects by the Warm Up stage designers and music by Warm Up performers.
Special thanks to Union Beer Distributors/Great Brewers and Ace Hotel New York.
