Once in a Lifetime. 1932. USA. Directed by Russell Mack. 91 min.
The Laemmles thought it prudent to append a signed apology to the studio’s adaptation of Kaufman and Hart’s Broadway hit, a brutal satire on the movie business. Jack Oakie, Aline MacMahon, and Russell Hopton, three vaudevillians who see opportunity in silent stars threatened by the talkies, open a “voice culture” school under the sponsorship of a broadly caricatured mogul (Gregory Ratoff).
