The Honeymoon Killers. 1970. USA. Written and directed by Leonard Kastle. With Shirley Stoler, Tony LoBianco, Doris Roberts. 108 min.

Martha, a registered nurse in Alabama, leads a lonely life filled with monotonous work and caring for her elderly mother. Her friend Bunny signs Martha up to meet a man via the personal ads, and lo and behold the suave Ray shows up to woo Martha. When Martha visits Ray in New York, she is fired from her nursing job, but it’s all worth it since she has a boyfriend now. When Ray confesses to a smitten, oblivious Martha that he is a con man who routinely bilks women out of their money, she willingly follows him down an increasingly depraved path of violence. The film is based on the true story of Martha Beck and Raymond Fernandez, who were executed in 1951 for murder.
