Donna Crump: My name is Donna Crump, I am lead actress, dancer, and choreographer in the film America.

One of the roles that I played in the film was Eve. She was married to Adam, they had children. It was almost portraying like, oh this is the American dream. You find a mate, you have kids, you go to work, and this is the happy family. I myself am a mother of two, so being a mom is something I pride myself on. But also being a Black woman, it was very important for me to portray that, because today in society we don't see enough of the Black family as one unit.

The film shows a lot of beauty amongst the African American community. A lot of African American history has been lost. And a lot of times, through the media, we only get to see the negative or the nasty or the ugly. And, you know, we will get to see some of the good, but there are so many beautiful things about Black love, Black history, Black Americans that have been forgotten or have been lost in the years of history.

When we think of America, to some extent we think of freedom. There is no one person or one idea that should be able to tell you what to do or how to think or how to be, as long as you are real and genuine within yourself, that freedom should still be there. And that's what's most important. That you see the images, you draw your own conclusion, and you have the freedom to feel and to think and to do whatever it is that you want.
