NARRATOR: So many types of fish, right? Not according to Tia Kratter. As an artist and art director, she has been responsible for details -- the colors, textures and surfaces -- in many Pixar films. A team of digital painters worked on the fish you see here.
TIA KRATTER: If you look carefully, you'll see that there are really only a few different models being used. But what that vast image shows is that, with the help of paint and texture, you can create a completely wide array of beautiful looking fish. Some of them are shiny, some are metallic. Some have a circus-like pattern on them. And that whole variety is astounding to me, and just, just beautiful.
NARRATOR: Digital artists painted more than 150 different fish for Finding Nemo. All based on real fish shapes and colors. Coral reef fish were bright and colorful, open ocean fish, silver or metallic, and harbor fish, dull grays and greens.
On the opposite wall are different kinds of art used in developing characters for Pixar films.
