Introduction
Pieter Dirk Brattinga (January 31, 1931, Hilversum – July 8, 2004, Barneveld) was a Dutch graphic designer. From 1951 until 1974 he was director of design at Steendrukkerij De Jong & Co in Hilversum. Between 1960 and 1964 he was professor and chairman at the visual communications faculty at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. He and Dick Dooijes wrote the book 'History of the Dutch Poster 1890–1960' (1968)

Introduction
During his early years, Pieter Brattinga learned the trade at his father's printing firm Steendrukkerij De Jong and acted as a middleman for printers and designers. From 1954-1973 he organized avant-garde art and design exhibitions in the family firm. Brattinga designed posters and edited a series of experimental Quadrate journals. He was invited by New York's Pratt Institute to set up internal design courses. Since 1965 Brattinga has worked as the house designer for the Rijksmuseum Kroller-Muller in Otterlo.
