- Zwart worked as an assistant architect in Voorburg from 1919 to 1921, and in The Hague, Netherlands, from 1921 to 1927. In 1923, Zwart began experimenting with photograms and in 1926, he was introduced to photomontage by the artist and photographer El Lissitzky (1890-1941). From 1928, Zwart worked as a freelance photographer and graphic designer in Delft, Rotterdam and The Hague, Netherlands.
