Raoul Hausmann

- Raoul Hausmann (July 12, 1886 – February 1, 1971) was an Austrian artist and writer. One of the key figures in Berlin Dada, his experimental photographic collages, sound poetry and institutional critiques would have a profound influence on the European Avant-Garde in the aftermath of World War I.

- From 1918 onwards he participated in the Berlin Dada movement by reciting poems in public or publishing them in the form of posters. Together with John Heartfield, he developed photomontage techniques. In 1919, he cofounded the magazine Dada and was involved in the Spartacist sociopolitical movement of the Novembergruppe. He toured the various manifestations of Dada in in Germany and in Prague. He was one of the organisers of the 1920 Dada Fair in Berlin and published two ‘manifesto articles’ in De Stijl. From 1921, Hausmann worked with Kurt Schwitters, organizing a number of demonstrations. He wrote pamphlets and manifestos and participated in collective exhibitions, demonstrations, and ‘Dada soirées.' at this time. In 1968, the Moderna Museet in Stockholm organised the first retrospective exhibition devoted to Hausmann.
