- Born 11 March 1813; died 27 February 1877. Anderson was born Isaac Atkinson, assumed the name William Nugent Dunbar as a painter, and then the name James Anderson as a photographer in Rome. Anderson settled in Rome in 1838 and began photographing in 1849, producing views of Rome and of sculptures and paintings.
