Please submit the following materials, in a single package, in the following order:

Application

Completed application form. Refer to the list of MoMA departments in order to list your departmental preferences. List specific departments rather than general headings. Here is an example of the correct format:

a. Photography
b. Development
c. Education

Essay

There is one required essay listed on the application form. It should be no longer than 750 words.

Résumé

Your résumé/curriculum vitae.

Letter of recommendation

Send in one letter of recommendation from an academic or professional reference. Be sure to allow your recommender ample time to write the recommendation. You may either include the recommendation with your application materials (preferred option), or have him/her email it directly to internships@moma.org with your name and the term in the subject line (e.g., Recommendation Letter for John Smith, Spring 2018 Internship). Transcript

Send in transcripts of undergraduate and graduate records. We accept either official or unofficial transcripts. If you do not have access to an unofficial transcript, allow enough time to order a transcript from your college or university so that you will be able to send it with your other application materials by the deadline. Samples of Design Work

If you are applying for an internship in the 1) Graphic Design or 2) Retail, Creative, and Marketing departments, you must submit five samples of your design work. If you have an online portfolio, include the link on both the application form and your résumé/CV. If you’re not applying for an internship in these departments, skip this step.

To submit your application, either:

  1. Scan entire application packet (recommended method), which includes résumé, recommendation, transcript, and design samples, if applicable, and email it to internships@moma.org. In the subject line, write “Spring 2018 Internship Application Materials” and include your name in the end of the subject.
  2. Mail application materials to:

The deadline date refers to the date by which applications must be postmarked. We understand that applications sent from overseas will take longer to arrive in our office; it’s not necessary to submit your application via express mail. We will not review applications postmarked after the deadline, and we will only review complete applications. It is your responsibility to submit your application fully and on time.

Select applicants will be contacted to arrange interviews. The majority of interviews will be conducted over the phone. If we request an interview with you, we will email you to arrange a convenient date and time for you.

Do not contact MoMA about scheduling an informational interview. Due to the high volume of applications and interest, we do not have the available resources or staff to conduct informational interviews.
