Dieter Roth
March 22, 2004
Dieter Roth (1930–1998), one of the most important European artists of the postwar period, is the subject of a retrospective exhibition at MoMA QNS and P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center from March 12 through June 7, 2004. This evocative film captures the spirit of Roth's art and life through candid interviews with Roth, other artists (including Richard Hamilton, Arnulf Rainer, and Emmett Williams), as well as family, friends, and students. It follows the winding path of Roth's life in Reykjavík, Vienna, and Basel, among other European cities—the landscape and social milieu that influenced Roth's work.
Organized by Gary Garrels, Chief Curator, Department of Drawings, and Curator, Department of Painting and Sculpture.
