Melvin Van Peebles: A Salute from MoMA and IFP
December 1, 2008–December 6, 2008
On December 2, IFP will present Melvin Van Peebles with a Gotham Award for his contribution to American independent cinema. As IFP executive director Michelle Byrd put it, "Without Melvin, there would not be independent film as we know it today." The Museum of Modern Art—which gave Van Peebles his first retrospective in 1989—joins IFP in celebrating the director's ongoing career with a presentation of his remarkable first feature, Story of a 3-Day Pass (1968), along with a preview of his most recent feature, the exuberant Confessionsofa Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha (2008).
Organized by Laurence Kardish in association with IFP.
