    1928. France. Written and directed by René Clair. Adapted from the play by Eugène Labiche. With Pierre Batcheff, Jim Gérald, Véra Flory, Maurice de Féraudy, Françoise Rosay. In Clair’s hands, a one-act comedy about a timid lawyer who wants to win the hand of a young woman (whose father wants to marry her to a brute) becomes pure cinema. Silent. 73 min.
