Blackmail
1929. Great Britain. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock. With Anny Ondra, Sara Allgood, John Longden, Cyril Ritchard. When sound film arrived, Hitchcock jumped at the opportunity to reshoot much of Blackmail in the new medium, thus replacing Buster Keaton as narrative cinema’s great experimenter. In theme, plot, and characterization, Blackmail anticipates all of the Hitchcock masterpieces yet to come. 86 min.
