    1954. Italy. Directed by Roberto Rossellini. Screenplay by Rossellini, Vitaliano Brancati. With Ingrid Bergman, George Sanders. During a trip to Italy to sell inherited property, a couple uncovers the emptiness within their marriage. After Bergman petitioned Rossellini to cast her in one of his films, culminating in their first collaboration, Stromboli (1950), the director and actress embarked upon a love affair. Rossellini cast his muse in virtually all of the films he made during their marriage (1950–57), despite critical and commercial pressure to do otherwise. 83 min.
