2006. Malaysia. Directed by Yasmin Ahmad. With Sharifah Amani Yahya, Adlin Aman Ramlie, Alan Yun Kam Lun. Orked is now grown up and married, yet she still pines for her dead boyfriend Jason. All her simmering feelings, compounded by the suspicion that her husband is cheating on her, come to a boil when she meets Jason's brother. Ahmad intersperses Orked’s realization of her womanhood with a parallel plot about a devout Muslim couple who befriend two prostitutes living near their mosque. Comfortably mixing comedy and melodrama, the director teases out the issues of compassion and forgiveness in a modern, complex society. In Malay and Cantonese; English subtitles. 113 min.
