  • Domestic Violence 2

2002. USA. Directed by Frederick Wiseman. Heartrending cases of violent domestic abuse are recounted and held up to legal scrutiny as they work their way through the judicial system in Hillsborough County, Florida (where Wiseman also filmed Domestic Violence). Faced with a seemingly endless docket of hopeless cases and the harrowing task of imposing reason on the madness of destructive relationships, exasperated and occasionally sardonic judges issue restraining orders, decide on parental visits and support payments, and deter-mine fault and punishment. The film’s real heart, though, lies in the shame and guilt felt by victims and perpetrators alike as their private tragedies are laid bare in public. 160 min.
