Sin Nombre
2009. Mexico/USA. Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga. The winner of the Dramatic Directing Award at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, Fukunaga’s astonishing debut feature follows the interweaving stories of Sayra, a teenager living in Honduras, and young gang members Casper and his protégé Smiley, as all three try to make the perilous journey to the U.S. aboard a freight train. With his ability to blend multiple story lines and genres into a seamless narrative, and his deft direction of inexperienced actors, Fukunaga is definitely a talent to watch. In Spanish; English subtitles. 96 min.
In the Film exhibition The Contenders, 2009
