    1963. USA/Great Britain. Directed by Don Chaffey. Screenplay by Jan Read, Beverley Cross. With Todd Armstrong, Niall MacGinnis, Honor Blackman. In search of the mythical Golden Fleece, Jason and the crew of the Argo face such perils as a one hundred–foot living statue, bat-winged harpies, and the seven-headed Hydra—all brought to life by legendary special-effects master Ray Harryhausen, one of Tim Burton’s childhood idols. “The stop-motion animation and the kind of reality and scale of it...was really amazing,” says Burton of the film, “[Harryhausen was able to] imbue his monsters with more emotion than most of the actors in those movies.” 104 min.
