By turns joyful, melancholy and hard-eyed, Damien Chazelle's Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench is a spirited mash-up of a downtown slacker relationship drama and a high-spirited Hollywood movie musical. Shot on a shoestring but with an original orchestral swing score, this debut feature stars the young jazz trumpeter Jason Palmer in a story in which love may be uncertain but passion for music is real. 82 min.
