Canyon Passage
1946. USA. Directed by Jacques Tourneur. Based on the novel by Ernest Haycox. With Dana Andrews, Brian Donlevy, Susan Hayward, Ward Bond. The Technicolor Western had just come into its own before the war, and the musical Western had already survived Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Tex Ritter, and even a singing John Wayne. Here, Tourneur interweaves the two, melding spectacular photography with songs by Hoagy Carmichael in a romantic tale of the Oregon frontier just before the Civil War. 92 min.
