2005. Iran. Written and directed by Mohammad Rasoulof. When a huge oil tanker hits a sandbar in the Persian Gulf and is abandoned by her crew, the enterprising Captain Nemat populates the ship with squatters. A school is developed, relationships grow, and positive labor is encouraged. Nemat is a benevolent “ruler,” but he is also tough and determined to extract and sell what little oil is left in the tanker before it sinks. In Farsi; English subtitles. 90 min.
