Look Both Ways
2005. Australia. Written and directed by Sarah Watt. With Justine Clarke. Watt takes an original, liberating, and even optimistic approach to bad things happening. A horrific train derailment in the city of Adelaide causes a group of friends and the strangers they meet—among them individuals struggling with cancer, depression, and an unwanted pregnancy—to consider their mortality. Look Both Ways won the Australian Film Institute award for Best Direction of a Feature Film in 2005, and was featured in MoMA’s 2006 New Directors/New Films series. A Kino International release. 100 min.
