  • Rough Aunties

2009. South Africa. Directed by Kim Longinotto. The "rough aunties" are a multiracial group of fearless and remarkable women who protect and care for the abused and neglected children of Durban, South Africa. Despite the harsh realities they deal with at the Bobbi Bear child welfare organization, they remain steadfast in their personal convictions as they battle systemic apathy and corruption. In this intimate portrait of change and hope, post-apartheid South Africa emerges as a nation being transformed by good works such as theirs. New York premiere. 103 min.
